What Qualifies as a Witch Hunt?
A witch hunt is a search for witches, either people believed to be literal witches or people dubbed witches in a metaphorical sense.
What is a Witch?
A witch is either a person who uses magic, spirits, occult forces, or the supernatural to manipulate the world around them or a person who is accused of a false or exaggerated offense. The word is often used in a negative sense.

Didn’t Witch Hunts End Hundreds of Years Ago?
In Europe and in many of colonies claimed by the European nations, formal legal proceedings against persons accused of witchcraft ended many years ago. However, witchcraft belief did not go away, and persons accused of witchcraft continued to be persecuted outside of the court system. Mob violence and murder have continuously occurred against those suspected of being witches. This violence has taken place in most, if not all, countries of the world over the generations. Unfortunately, violence against persons accused of witchcraft and sorcery continues today. Visit our parent organization, End Witch Hunts, to learn more.
